HTC Annual Awards Banquet – On 8 November the club held its annual awards banquet.  We honored a number of club members and supporters without who we could not conduct our many events.  If you could not attend, or you did attend and would like to read the award presentations, please click here.  And next time you see an award recipient please thank them for the hard work and dedication to the club.  Remember, without people like them there would be no HTC.

The City of Huntsville has uploaded 54 minutes of video from the 2011 Cotton Row Run.  Take a look.  Click here to watch video.

Ever wonder why your expensive GPS watch doesn’t exactly match the course distance?  Or wonder how courses are measured and certified.  Take a look at this article. And if you are wondering how accurate the altitude measurements are - for a typical consumer GPS device the altitude error is on the order of 50% larger than the distance error

Youth/kids Running – Did you child take part in the recent Autumn Chase races and you desire guidelines on youth running?  Here are two links to some relevant info. Link #1  Link #2 We hope this information will help you to set appropriate guidelines for your young runner and start them on their way to a lifelong running path.

Got an idea or want to see the HTC offer a new program?  Don’t keep it to yourself.  Contact a board member and let them know.  We are always looking for new ideas and really want the club to serve its members but in order for that to happen we need to know what you want to see.  This is your club but it takes your involvement to make it happen.

Do you have a Facebook page?  Well, so does the HTC.  Just click here to join.  Your membership status will be checked before adding you to the group and you must have a Facebook profile.   This new resource will allow members to discuss running, races and training.  Club events will also be posted.

Headphone wearers take note!  Headphones are NOT allowed in HTC events.  Anyone caught violating this policy in HTC events will be DISQUALIFIED (no listing in results, not eligible for awards, no refund of entry fees, prevention for participation in other club events).  Please click here for more info on this subject.  This policy makes our events safer for EVERYONE and also meets our liability insurance requirements.  Even though the USATF has rescinded their ban (although it is still in effect for championship races) our liability insurance requires us to continue and enforce the ban.  Again, we apologize for any inconvenience but we are doing this to ensure the safety of ALL the runners and volunteers in our events.  We appreciate your cooperation.  Read this for reasons why NOT to wear headphones running.

image004The HTC and FleetFeetSports Huntsville are teaming up to recycle shoes.  The new program is replacing the Shoe Amnesty program previously undertaken by the HTC.  This new program will place gently used shoes (any shoes, not just running shoes) in the hands of people in need of shoes.  This program will be feeding shoes to the group Soles for Souls.  Shoes will be collected at FleetFeetSports Huntsville but will not be collected at races anymore.

Do you like to talk to people?  Are you interested in helping the HTC gain new members?  Consider volunteering to staff a membership table at HTC events.  Contact David Purinton for more information.
