STATE REPS LETTER TO
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear David,
We
are hearing some disconcerting things about RRCA's financial state and would
like you to clarify, confirm, or deny what we are hearing.
We
have heard that available cash reserves are evaporating. How bad is the
situation? Will the RRCA be able to meet its financial obligations, e.g.,
payroll, for the foreseeable future? It is our belief that regular financial
reports should be made available to all State Representatives, thereby allowing
us to keep our local running clubs better informed.
In
a separate but related matter, we understand that you told Board members to pay
their own travel, lodging, and per diem expenses for next month's special
budget meeting. This may not be a showstopper for Board members who live within
hailing distance of Alexandria; not so for those further west. A part
in-person, part teleconference meeting is apparently being planned, putting
those who cannot afford to travel at somewhat of a disadvantage.
We
are concerned about the status of advertising for "Footnotes". Now
that there is no advertising director for the publication, we would like to
know "who" is doing "what" to nurture and maintain
oversight of this potential revenue source. We understand that there will be savings
realized from the postal permit reclassification, as you explained at
Convention. However, that is only "one facet of the jewel" - we wish
to hear about the other(s).
We
would like to know what you have done to secure new donors to help RRCA improve
its financial situation. We feel you have been given adequate direction from
the Board, and believe that the current bylaws give you ample authority to
manage successfully in our organization. We would like your progress report on
new or potential sponsors.
Given
the side of the story to which we have been made aware, all signs point toward
disaster. As concerned State Representatives, we wish to hear what you have to
say about these matters. Your immediate response would greatly be appreciated.
Sincerely,
David Epstein, Alaska
