The Huntsville Track Club’s 2007 Media Award to Channel 48, WAFF TV

In recent years the local television station that the Huntsville Track Club can count on attending our media events and providing publicity for the Rocket City Marathon and the Cotton Row Run is station WAFF-TV, Channel 48, the local NBC affiliate.

It started several years ago with Sports Director Will Kennedy, continued with his successor, Kristin Tallent and now is in the capable hands of Scott Theisen and his co-anchor/reporter Michaelene Tetteh.

The Huntsville Track Club has had the good fortune to enjoy outstanding coverage by television, print and radio media outlets in the Huntsville area, dating back to 1977 when the club conducted the first marathon in Alabama. Even now, with many more sports being played in the Huntsville area, and with sports programming being cut in air time, Channel 48 has continued to give our club’s major running events both pre and post race coverage that is outstanding.

Scott Theisen, a native of Iowa, has been the common thread for Channel 48 in recent years. As a photographer with Kennedy, a sports reporter and weekend anchor with Tallent and now as the station’s Sports Director, he has been a representative for Channel 48 at HTC media events for the past six years.

Here is a brief biography of Scott, taken from the Channel 48 web page:

“Scott grew up in Anamosa, Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Political Science. He began his broadcasting career in 1997 at station KGAN in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he was a sports reporter and photographer.

“Scott left Iowa in 1999 to make the move to Huntsville, and has been here ever since.

“He and his wife Tara, whom he met upon moving to Huntsville, have one child, Landon. Scott loves to play golf, basketball and attend any sporting event from football to ping pong.”

It is my pleasure to present the Huntsville Track Club’s 2007 Media Award to Channel 48 and its Sports Director, Scott Theisen.
